Joyce Wadey using a simple disc camera in 1987 and 1988
Toby's thatched
cottage - 158, Castle Street, Portchester

The thatch had been blown from the roof in the great
gale of October 1987 and carelessly left against the wall
The following 5 photographs of the fire were taken on March 10th
1988

The thatch on the ground was ignited and rapidly spread to the roof


Fire service arrives and is quickly in action

but the roof could not be saved

The three photographs above are from a collection of
100 slides dating from 1963 to 1975 . The collection will eventually
be put on the Archives/Pics page possibly as a slide show (no date)

Portchester Ladies Cricket Team 1930's

Jean Withinshaw, Chairman of The Portchester Society, presenting a picture of a
'Birds Eye View of Portchester Castle' painted in 1817 by an unknown
artist to Mr Matthews, Headmaster of Portchester Community School,
White Hart Lane, Portchester and pupils Dominic Warren and Zoe
Freeman.
The presentation took place at The Portchester
Society Meeting in the Methodist Church Hall on September 3rd 2007.

We are waiting the return of this plaque.

The land on which the Old Parish Hall stood is shown on
the Common Fields Map of 1405.
This will be the subject for research of the Farms in Portchester with
the names of who owned and farmed it from 1405 onwards.
The drawing is on one of our notelets (see our 'Publications' page for
details)

The remains of a
windmill still standing near Portchester foreshore. It was known as
Pycroft Mill
The field on which it stands will be a subject of research from 1405
until the present day. (See common fields map of 1405 above)
